What is Christian Spiritualism?
You may have been to a stage mediumship show, to a “psychic evening” at the local pub or something similar, but we as Christian Spiritualists do not believe that spirit communication should n be used for entertainment or financial gain. We hold that, like all spiritual gifts, it comes from God given and is given for the purpose of comforting the bereaved, the evolution of the soul and the upliftment and spiritual evolution of mankind.
These public events can bring a degree of comfort to the bereaved in that they provide some evidence of survival beyond physical death; but they provide no meaning or context beyond this. There are also several techniques that can be used to elicit information or to make general statements given to the recipient of the message appear personal to them. It is worth remembering that ultimately the motive behind such shows is a financial one.
As Spiritualists we believe that we are not human beings who have spiritual experiences, but rather that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. We were spirit before we were born, are spirit as we live out our earth life and are spirit after it’s end. We believe that the purpose of the earth life is to learn the lessons that we need to learn in order to progress spiritually to higher planes of being and ultimately to full re-unification with God.
As Christian Spiritualists we believe in the teachings Jesus of Nazareth. We believe that they show us the path of spiritual evolution and how God’s Kingdom can be established in the here and now. We accept and believe in the main precepts of Christianity; that Jesus was the incarnation of God and by his birth to the Virgin Mary brought the divine to humanity as it’s redeemer or saviour:
“Behold the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”). (Matthew 1:23)
We believe that He physically rose from the dead on the third day after His execution, thereby demonstrating the ultimate power of God even over death itself.
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess.” (Hebrews 4:14)
We believe that after His ascension into heaven mankind received the gifts of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
“There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people” (1 Corinthians 12:4)
As Christian Spiritualists we do not claim a monopoly of the truth; to quote a Hindu proverb “There are many paths up the mountain” and each person’s spiritual journey is unique to them as an individual.

This is why we say that it is “more than a religion; it is a way of life.”
